Liverpool declares its Air Quality Management Area

Liverpool City Council have officially designated an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) in Liverpool city centre. Within this zone of the city, attempts will be made to minimise pollution levels from traffic and provide greater priority to pedestrians, cyclists and clean public transport.

Liverpool City Council have now contracted consultants NETCEN to further investigate the sources of pollution in the area and, following public consultation, produce a detailed plan for reducing transport related pollution in the AQMA.

This public information service will initially be available on the internet and over the telephone. An awareness raising campaign will been launched across Liverpool over the next two years.
