Standing at 820m above sea level, Potenza is the chief town of the Basilicata region and is situated 150 km south east of Naples . The town has a population of 70,000 (110,000 including surrounding districts) and t he Italian project partner, CTP, is the regional public transport provider in the region of Naples.

Through CATCH a feasibility study for a number of urban transport improvements was undertaken in the city of Potenza . Proposed measures to be included in the feasibility study were:

•  To organise a new and more efficient integrated transport system;

•  T o encourage the use of public transport and to decrease traffic;

•  To define interchange points for public transport in the city;

•  T o use ecological vehicles and fuel for the public transport service which enters the ZTL;

•  T o develop a traffic plan and study the possibility of establishing emission free areas through Limited Traffic Zones (ZTL); and,

•  To disseminate information in order to increase citizen awareness about the causes of the pollution and the damaging effects that it has on health.
